Prayer is a Lifestyle
I was riding in my car the other day, listening to the samples of my cousin, Sheila’s new prayer album (shameless plug, info below), Things get better after this. It’s a collection of different prayers. As I was listening, the thought popped in my mind, prayer is a lifestyle. It’s not just something we do, we should live our life around it and incorporate it in all parts of our lives.
In any relationship, communication is necessary. It is through our communications that we learn more about the other person, what they like, what they don’t like, do they have a sense of humor, are they giving, do their actions line up with their words. The same is true for our relationship with God, we must talk with him, spend time with him so that we can learn more about Him. Just like we do with our other relationships, we talk on the phone driving in the car, while we are watching tv (depending on what’s on), or even sometimes eating. Prayer must be the same. We should invite God into all areas of our lives. We need Him in all areas of our lives. And remember, prayer isn’t one-sided, we should talk to him, but we also have to allow time for him to speak back to us.
How are you continuing to make prayer your lifestyle? I personally am trying to do better, talking to God like I would my friend. Just having a conversation.
The other day I did a meditation/prayer and I decided to do the same thing here. Check out my meditation below.
Let’s lead the way in showing others, prayer can be a lifestyle. We all pray in different ways, no way is right or wrong unless you’re not being yourself. I’ve come up with a few tips as you continue to make prayer a part of your lifestyle.
- Be You! It’s important to be yourself. God knows you and he wants all of you.
- Be genuine and honest! God can handle all parts of you, he can handle your anger, your doubts, and fears. He can handle the imperfect parts of you, so be honest with him and allow him to fix it.
- Remember, there is no time length criteria or certain words required for prayer; it’s just a conversation between you and your Father.
As you continue on your prayer journey, check out my cousin’s newly released prayer album, “Things Get Better After This.” The song featured on this album is special to me, as it was dedicated to my dad and aunt. Check it out here.
I created a prayer/meditation to accompany this blog. Listen here.
