Healing…
Some weeks ago, I burned myself. How, you may ask? I was on my way out the door, I reached down to pick up something and the HOT tea I was holding spilled on my arm. It felt like fire on my arm lol. Talk about the pain! As I have gone through the healing process, I recognize that while all the remedies out there are great, nothing does better for healing than time. Of course, along with all the other things.
When it initially happened, I ran some cold water over it, then after I realized the skin broke I put some Neosporin on it. In talking with my cousin about the incident, she shared aloe would be good for me to put on it. She gave me some of her aloe plant to put on my burn. Of course, since I wasn’t as familiar with aloe, I google it and learned some of the benefits. Aloe contains active compounds that may reduce pain and inflammation and stimulate skin growth and repair. Aloe heals it faster. All those things worked well, but ultimately only time could heal my wound. The remedies make a huge difference but time is needed for a complete healing. It’s amazing how the body can heal itself.
As I think on the healing of my burn, I think of healing in general. We often want things to just go away or just wake up and it’s better, but the process of healing is required. It is not always good, but necessary. I looked up the word process, it means a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. I began to ponder of some questions as it relates to healing. What is your end goal? How do you plan to get to the end goal? What steps will you take to get there? What is required of you to get there?
As we quickly approach Christmas, I’m reminded of many who have had loss over the years. The grieving process is real, untimely, and hard. But it must happen. It’s a part of the process for our healing. The scars will stay, but we must allow the healing to occur so that we can move on without opening up the wound again or picking at the wound.
As we prepare for the holidays, I wanted to leave with you a recipe you can use now or in the future. It is a recipe for healing.
